Outpatient services provided by Comprehensive Psychiatric Care include:
EATING DISORDERS:
The first step in treating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and
compulsive overeating is to evaluate the patient. The course of
treatment will incorporate a psycho-therapeutic, as well as a behavioral
approach. Medication management is addressed with nutrition education,
family therapy, and continued physical monitoring in coordination with
the patient's primary care physician.
SEXUAL DYSFUNCTIONS:
Treatment for sexual dysfunctions such as impotence, premature
ejaculation, orgasmic dysfunctions and inhibited sexual desire is
accomplished by evaluation of the couple or individual. The course of
treatment follows a behavioral, as well as psychotherapeutic approach.
This is accomplished in a task-oriented number of sessions.
ADHD CONSULTATION/EVALUATION/ TREATMENT:
Children, adolescents and adults can suffer from Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Although a psychiatric evaluation,
may include laboratory test, EKG, and in consultation with the appropriate
primary care physician a physical examination may be performed, a
treatment plan will include help with self-esteem issues, consultation
with educational personnel, pediatricians, and family members if
necessary. Medication can be part of the treatment if indicated after
the patient is evaluated.
OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER:
OCD is a disorder characterized by obsessive thoughts, ruminations,
and/or rituals that can be severely handicapping to the patient. It is
treated with a combination of psychotropic medication and
psychotherapeutic intervention.
POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER:
When a person is faced with a severe traumatic situation that can be
threatening to his or her life or emotional welfare, he/she may develop
a condition called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This disorder is
manifested by withdrawal, depressed mood, and reoccurring dreams,
flashbacks, anxiety, lack of interactive
ability, sleep disturbance, appetite disturbance. This is treated with
psychotropic medication and psychotherapy.
PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY/MEDICATION MANAGEMENT:
All patients are evaluated by the medical director/psychiatrist or
APRN for the
need for psychotropic medication, that is antidepressant, for depressed
patients, mood stabilizers for mood disorders and bipolar (manic
depressive disorders), anti-anxiety medication for panic
disorders/anxiety disorders, and neuroleptics for psychotic disorders.
Patients will have appropriate laboratory tests, EKG and physical
examination is coordination with their primary care physician.
SEXUAL ABUSE:
Individuals of all ages, from children to the elderly suffer from
depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, sexual dysfunctions, compulsions,
addiction, or relationship problems as a result of childhood sexual
abuse, sexual coercion, or rape. The longer the experience is left
untreated, the more emotional damage the abuse can cause. Treatment of
sexual abuse involves individual psychotherapy, behavior therapy,
assertiveness skills training, or play therapy for children, with
involvement of significant family members as deemed appropriate. When
needed, there is careful coordination of treatment with community
agencies and the therapist takes an active role as an advocate.
TREATMENT OF CHILDREN:
Services provided begin with thorough psychiatric and social evaluation.
Parents and children can participate in a treatment regime which may
include medication, family therapy, play therapy and intensive parenting
education. Therapists assist parents with school consultations and
obtaining special educational referrals to services which may be needed.
Auxiliary services, such as big brothers, etc. or partial
hospitalization will be made as needed.
Children show symptoms under stress because of emotional disturbance,
learning problems, family issues of separation or divorce, addiction or
abuse. Specialized services for children who have been traumatized by
physical, emotional, or sexual abuse are available.
PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING:
Children and Adolescents will be evaluated, in order to diagnosis
learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
and/or educationally-related learning or adjustment problems.
Psychological testing may be utilized an an adjunct to psychotherapy for
children, adolescents, or as an aspect of educationally related
consultation through referral to an appropriate consultant if necessary.
